Assembling the Legion of Champions or Foot Knights!

Well once again I come to you all, my dear readers, with my unit the Legion of Champions. I have posted a fluff in the literature section and the rules/stats in the rules section. Now it is time for me to teach you how to make them!

Step by step...

Obviously we can't go about making thing swithout the proper tools can we? You shall need the following tools and materials:

  • Plastic Glue
  • Extra Small Hacksaw
  • Metal 'Clippers'
  • The Random bits assembled below

All of these can be bought at Games Workshop.

Now your first step to assembling these fine knights is taking the peasant's body and clipping off (using the metal clippers) one sleeve off the peasant's body like so:

Once done the model should look relatively like this:

The next step is a bit tougher considering I must warn all readers to be careful. Take the extra small hacksaw and cut along the white line indicated in the next picture. Cut the entire body in half and for different bodies the key is to cut above the belt of the body. Be sure that your fingers aren't in the way of getting cut, it is a very fine blade and also be alert that you don't break the delicate saw blade as well.

Once this has been completed you will only need the bottom half which should look nice, clean and smooth. These will be your legs for your soon-to-be knight.

Okay so maybe I can't cut as striaght as some of you guys but sometimes the angle gives you a better look in the end. Next we have to do the body so grab your Knight's body. The bottom of the body is rounded, no good to glue on a flat surface, so what you must do is take the clippers and clip off the rounded part (put the flat side against the body so when you cut it it comes out flat) as demonstrated:

After it has been cut it should look something like this, even though it looks rough I assure you it's flat:

So now you can have your fun with the glue... after you're done gluing your eyelids shut or your toes together and claiming you're a duck, glue

the top part of the body to the bottom part and this is where the slant from cutting can have a cool effect! An upward slant makes the man raise his arm for blocking as a lowered slant is raising his sword when you cut it! It's really neat, so go ahead... glue the body together.

Once that's out of the way you can glue him to your base and glue on his head and sword. We now must move onto the shield. You will need a Peasant tower shield for this. Notice how on the back of the shield there is the arm that would normally attach to the peasant's sleeve. Considering we have no sleeve we must take the arm right off. You can either clip it off or saw it off if you choose, I prefer clipping it. The main point is to cut off as much of the arm as possible though and trying to make it mostly smooth.

After it's clipped (A few times to get as much off as possible mind you):

Now that was as much as I could take off without breaking the top half of the shield and it is good enough at that, as long as you can glue it onto your knight in the end! I advise using a metal file to shave it down or smooth it out if you can't clip it off any longer, and afterwards when you wish to glue it, even though gluing it on as it is above is perfectly fine, you could also make small holding bits out of green stuff so it attaches to your knight's arm much like the regular Knight's shield has to connect to the arm.

So now you have everything assembled, your knight is pretty much done! Congradulations. He should look something like the picture below (minus the shield because I paint the shields and knight first then glue the shield on) and all you will have left to do is paint him! You only need to assemble a good 9 more after this one is done and you will have a legal unit according to the unofficial rules for minimum unit size.

Thanks for reading and taking interest on this amazing unit! I hope you readers decide to explore the uses of this unit in many battles. May the Lady be with you.
