Bretonnian Special Characters 4 Years, 11 Months ago
UPDATE:
I finished the pages about Reynard le Chasseur, Tancred I, Tristan le Troubadour.

We once started a discussion to update the rules of the past Special Characters.

http://www.network54.com/Forum/thread-44521-1105377519-Bretonnian+characters+from+5th+ed.

http://www.network54.com/Forum/thread-44521-1106215758-Bretonnian+Special+Character

By now we have rules ideas for:

Repanse de Lyonesse

Repanse is a Bretonnian Lord armed with the Sword of Lyonesse, heavy armour and a shield. She is riding a Barded Bretonnian Warhorse and carries the Fleur-de-Lys Banner. Repanse may be chosen as the General of your army and also counts as the Battle Standard Bearer.

Mundane points cost: Lord + shield + barded warhorse = 134 pts

Special Rules: Knight's Vow, Halo of Maidenly Wrath, Virtue of Devotion

    Knight's Vow

As Bretonnian Army Book - free

    Halo of Maidenly Wrath

    Causes Fear - 15 points

    Virtue of Devotion

    MR 2 - 30 points

No extra is charged for being the BSB as, unlike in 5th ed., the Bretonnians do not pay any extra for their BSBs.

    The Sword of Lyonesse

This magic item defies the magic powers of any magic item carried by an enemy in base-to-base contact with the exception of magic weapons. Any ward saves that are due to magic items will be negated, and any magic armour counts as mundane armour of the same kind.

    - 75 points

    Fleur-de-Lys Banner

During the Bretonnian turn, removes 1 dispell die from your opponent and adds it to your power dice pool. During your opponent's turn, removes 2 power dice from your opponent and adds them to your dispell dice pool.

    - 100 points

    Total points cost: 354 points

Reynard le Chasseur

    24+ [Knight of the Realm]
    0+ [Champion]***
    1+ [light Cavalry]
    16+ [+1 Attack (hawk)]
    7+ Griffe*
    7+ Groffe*
    25+ [hunting spear]**

    =80 pts

    * the Dogs have M8 WS4 BS0 S3 T3 W1 I3 A1 Ld5 (6pt)
and are light cavalry or can use the Lance Formation rule (+1pt).
They can use Reynard's Leadership until he's alive..
Same 5th ed rules for dogs, hif Reynard is killed they go random (-x points) , but if they are killed Reynard hates the enemy (+x points) . +x pts 'x points= (0 points for these rules)

**The Hunting Spear works like a spear
+ if the enemy is wounded it cannot fight back
(it's like a Cult of Ulric magic item, but it's 5 point cheaper for the Ulric magic weapon is a Knight hammer = 2hands, +2S in charge, +1S every turn. The hunting spear is much less effective as weapon). (also we should erase from the basic 24points the cost of the Lance Reynard has not).

***Reynard can be either a KotR unit champion or a mounted yeomen unit champion.
If champion of a Mounted Yeomen unit he and the dogs are fast cavalry. If he leads a unit of Mounted Yeoman, they get the Knightly virtue.
If he leads a KotR unit in the Lance Formation, the dogs are added in front rank, beside Reynard. That will put the Standard Bearer and the Musician in the second rank.

Duc Bohemond

Here's a first draft for Bohemond:

Lord on Warhorse, Grail Vow, Heavy Armour, Shield: 222Pts
Virtue of the Impetuous Knight: 35Pts
"Morningstar of Fracasse"-effect as a Shield (with a reverse Effect and on 4+, but should be similar Points): 25Pts
"Sword of Heroes"-effect, but without Strength Bonus (already calculated in the Morningstar): 30Pts

    -------------->312 Pts

Which means (comparable to the old character):
Bohemond is a Bretonnian Lord with the Grail Vow, Heavy Armour, Barder Warhorse and
    - the Great Mace of Bastonne (+2S; D3 Wounds against T5+ enemies)
    - Shield of Bohemond (if an enemy hits him with a magic weapon, on a 4+ for every hit, the weapon is destroyed)
    - Virtue of the Impetuous Knight (+D6" on the first Charge)

Tancred

It's been a quite easy job, being this character already made for a WD article.

    resuming the WD rules:
Tancred, Duc de Quenelles ......... 275 points
Weapons: Lance and the Blade of Couronne.
Armour: Heavy armour and the Holyl Shield.
    Mount: Barded Bretonnian warhorse.
The Duke has the Grail Virtue making him Immune to Psychology and the Virtue of Purity which gives him Magic Resistance (1).
    MAGIC ITEMS:
The Blade of Couronne: The sword wounds Undead creatures automatically, with no armour saves allowed.
The Holy Shield: Counts as a normal shield. In addition, all Undead creatures and Daemons in bas contact with the bearer lose 1 Attack from their profile.

    1) I left the magic items as they were. GW has already calculated their cost.
    2) The Virtue of Purity now works differently. But I saw magic resistance (1) costs exactly like the actual virtue of purity; 20 points.
    3) Now a lord costs 110 pts and has heavy armour ,so 4 pts more than before.
    4) now the Grail vow costs 28pts, while the old Grail Virtue was 20 pts, so 8 pts more.

So I'd keep the same rules of the WD, but with an new point cost:
    287pts.

We miss rules for:

Odo d'Outremer avec Suliman le Saracen

Bertrand le Brigand

I have to say that I miss the rules for bertrand and his henchmen the most, a unit of skirmishing archers with Bs4 was great!

Go on then, try creating some unofficial rules and propose them here so we can discuss them!
I think comparing them to elven archers (for the point costs) can be a starting point.

well, gentleman, give me sometime, and as soon as I can, I'll post here rules for some old heroes, and some ideas I have.

On Bertrand the Brigand - seen Benedictus' rules for him on H&A? I think I reposted those to here too, though I can't recall for sure.
I'm afraid I'm not in the least bit Bretonnian, no. Sorry.

I, too, would have to say thet I really would love to see the return of Bretrand le Brigand. Maybe then we'd have a foot troop the enemy woujld respect.

Speaking of that...what about a unit of Knights on Foot, say Knights of the Realm, maybe Errantry stats minus the warhorse cost and the lance and Lance formation (or keep the Lance Formation?). It would be neat to be able to have some Knights on Foot, at least more than one or two, like Great Swords or Chaos Warriors or something, but noble.

Re:Bretonnian Special Characters 3 Years, 11 Months ago
to be honost i think that was the intent of the Grail Requiam was to give us a foot unit that was formitable but at the same time still pesents. i agree knights on foot would be great. maby to insure their rarity they could make them an option for Questing Knights. kind of make them realy pious and such.

Let s hope we get rules for dismounting our knights for the promissed Siedge expansion...
Henric Kemmler and Krell will be banished by my sword!Ave Notre Dame De Batallie! Ave Dame de Lac!
The arrows klinging off from your breathplate,
But one is enough in your throat,
And even if you are born to be a great fighter
Never shall you come home...
