The end of the road for an old campaigner. Even when you expect it, when your aged parent dies it is quite saddening.
I put together this little post about him and his service in WWII.

I am sorry for your loss.

A fitting tribute to a brave man.

Deepest sympathies.

Every Kiwi I have ever met has shown a great deal of character. Reading the citation that came along with the medal proves this further. Your father was a hero and the type of person who this world sorely needs more of. You have my deepest condolences for your loss, but know that he will forever live on in you and your family.

Enjoyed reading your tribute to him on your log. Seems like he was quite the serviceman back in his day, and making it for 90 years is quite the accomplishment, too. May the most pleasant of memories bring sweetness to your sorrow, and good moments for you and your family during this time.

I am sorry for your loss. My grandfather passed away nearly a month ago now, not quite the same as a father but he served as well. I spent my time looking through his old pictures and letters and was a real joy to read. Some of the things I had never heard about or only knew half the story.

He was a paratrooper and was in India. He had his 21st in the viceregal palace, met Nasri, Ghandhi and Churchill. He was there during the partition of India and Pakistan and he wrote in his diary of some of the terrible things he saw happen there. Not bad for a young lad from Gateshead.
