Dealing with Buildings 1 Year, 3 Months ago
750pt army consisting of the following:

1 non-unique Hero character
1-2 Core units
0-1 Special Units

DEPLOYMENT
Players will deploy in opposite corners of a 4'x4' board, with a 16" no man's area in the middle

VICTORY CONDITIONS
1 point for each enemy unit that had been destroyed, is fleeing or has fled the battlefield at the end of the game
2 points if you kill the opponents General

SCENARIO SPECIAL RULES
Each table will have a tower/building in each deployment zone. If you can get one of your units/models inside the building in the enemy deployment zone, you will earn an extra Scenario Point for your Army/Faction

What would you do? Here is about as far as I have gotten.
- Use PK to deny any fast cavalry types from getting into my building
- Use magic to attack the opponents building directly
- Buff some M@A and try to take opponents building
- Pretend the buildings don't exist. Use KOTR/PK to deny opponent access to my building and kill off whatever he doesn't bunker in his building - preferably staying out of range. In theory this forces him out of his building if he wants any points.

For that particular scenario I would try for the other objective points and try to not worry about the building. Basically target the enemy general, kill it, and its worth double what claiming the building is. AND that should be a lot easier for you. So I vote third option .

At 750 points your opponent shouldn't be able to take anything too scary, and since our core and characters carry our army you should have a decent time.

Not knowing what race you are up against, I would probably take a defensive army, forcing them to engage. Something along the lines of below, use the PKs to try hunt their general if you can, otherwise you should be able to hit almost their entire deployment zone with 24 flaming 30" shots each turn, forcing them to come into range of your KotR and PK charges:

Hero (126)
Paladin - Gromil, Wyrmlance, Shield, Barded Warhorse

Special (175)
3x Peg Knights - Musician

Core (447)
11x KotR - FC, Banner of Chalons
24x Peasant Bowmen - Braziers

Alternatively, a much higher risk play could be to swap the paladin for a Beasts Damsel on Foot with a Dispel Scroll and either use her ranged DD spells or pray for Kadon, but that is putting two Victory Points at very high risk.

I was kinda headed toward one big lance, pk and a bunch of archers, but I had a lvl2 Damsel on beasts in the lance to deal with the likes of WoC and helping to grind Skaven blocks up via Wyssans and hope for a flock of doom, curse or amber spear to back it up.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts on the buildings... Ignore them.

As for opponents, last time there was; Wood Elf, High Elf, WoC, 2x Empire, Dwarf. One of the Empire guys is brining Dark Elves next time and another guy is going to bring ether Skaven or Lizards.

As I see it, a competitive list for brets at 750 would go something like this:

Paladin BSB, Horse, Charmed Shield, Luckstone, Sword of might/Wyrmlance
Damsel, Level 1, Horse, (Beasts)
5 KoR Banner
11 Knights Errant, Banner, Leadership banner
2 Trebs

Total is 749 points

You could swap the charmed shield and luckstone for the enchanted shield for that 1 up armour save without a re-roll.

When you roll for dice, generally I'd only consider keeping savage beast of horrors or the amber spear (if there are suitable targets). Wyssans is just great.

Re:Dealing with Buildings 1 Year, 2 Months ago
Oddly enough this game was yesterday. I took:

Lvl2 on beasts with dispel scroll
12 kotr, fg, gleaming pennant
5 kotr, music, damsel bunker
3 pk

I faught lizards with a big pile of saurs, some skinks and a bastidon and lvl2. I tabled him on turn3 even after my damsel miscast twice. He had never even seen Bret's before and had no idea how fast and hard I'd be on top of him. He probably lost in the deployment phase letting me double charge his saurs with a wyssaned up kotr and the pks in the flank on turn2.

Good job. Was there a special rule allowing you to leave your BSB at home?

A little late but I think a fun list would have been:

Paladin - Questing Vow, Warhorse, Great Weapon, Gromril Greathelm (116)
10 Knights of the Realm - Full Command (264)
8 Knights of the Realm - (192)
3 Pegasus Knights - Musician (175)
Total: 747

Put the Paladin with the KotR in your building and they'll be near impossible to move. The 8 KotR can handle themselves pretty well, especially with the help of the Peg Knights. You should be able to pick up chaff or beat one of their units to secure the win.

There were special list composition rules and each army was only allowed 1 hero (general).

One thing to note is that our Flaming Archers re-roll to wound for troops in buildings this may help our peasant bowmen do some actual damage. Harmonic Convergence Lore Heavens will also help our archers to hit (re-rolling 1's).

Trebuchets are still the best solution vs. troops in buildings..

Also, cavalry units may dismount and attack buildings, but may not occupy them.

Grail Reliquae is also quite good for assaulting buildings, as it lets you squeeze in a few more attacks (ok, they're crappy peasant attacks, but that's our infantry), and having Hatred every turn when you have to keep charging is pretty good.

In larger point games a block of 50 M@A may be useful especially if buffed by Magic and the 5+ WS.
