Good news! Victory to Bretonnia, and a good one too!
I killed 1600ish pts of woodies, their general, a banner and an underdog challenge (with an errant!) and lost only both
KE units and my level 1 damsel in distress!
To be honest it was a weird game, once sides were chosen I'd thought it was game over. Somehow he'd built himself a bunker with a blessed bulwark infront of an acropolis of heroes. He then grew two venomthickets on the edges.
His list was strange,
2x 10 trueflights
2x 10 bodkins
2x 5 deepwood rangers
5 waywatchers
waystalker
5 sisters of the thorn
6 glade riders
lev 4 wiz (shadow)
lev 2 wiz (metal)
my own list was two dimensional as I'd thought to rely on my armour anything in blue I could have done without, I almost coloured the archer unit but their presence did command the field.
ASF lord,
gauntlet and virtue of confidence
lev 4 wiz (heavens) scroll of shielding
lev 2 wiz (life)
prayer icon and on foot
lev 1 wiz (beasts) Dispell scroll
BSB,
banner of the lady, virtue of duty
40 bowmen,
braziers
2x 7 KOTR
2x 9 KE
The battle played out with two turns of him slaughtering my KE, which I used to cover my character buses before throwing one KE over the wall (I lost the other to bodkins) and both KOTR through the woods. I know it's historically and tactically a horrific choice but this is fantasy... chucking heavy cavalry into a built up woodland to fight skirmishers is just fine. But yeah... once I was into his line and he had to react things weren't looking great and by turn 5 it was game over. My archers did absolutely nothing except stand on a hill and scare his archers, I lost one all game and to be honest the points seemed wasted at the time but in reflection they did dominate the game.
Yeah his tactics weren't up to scratch - I don't know what happened but he had no eternal guard and managed to deploy his waywatchers, one unit of deepwood rangers, his waystalker and his wild riders in his main battle line which were all promptly cut down. Admittedly his Ld tests were shocking, I thing he passed one all game, and my follow up moves were above average but it felt like a game in two halves - elves shoot, Bretonnians skewer.
So no eternal guard was a surprise but I was assured by my opponent that "Wood elves play different to other armies" and that "you have to be gamey" and my favourite "you couldn't win with them" to which I promptly lay down the gauntlet like a true knight.
GRUDGEMATCH BOOKED WITH ME
AS THE WOODIES!
This should be interesting and I might comeback asking for counter knowledge!
