"Tis fall and the leaves are already turning." He looked out the window. "Soon the snows will come to delight the young and frustrate the old." He called over his steward and instructed him to send out the invitations for the Festival de l'Hiver. In mid December. Lady d'Ascoyne took Lady Gandolfyn's arm in hers and the trio walked out of the room with the daughters following behind.

Lady d'Ascoyne had the last word. "Ye hath heard my husband's wisdom of ' Soon the snows will come to delight the young and frustrate the old'. What he fails to mention is that he has a marvelous sled that he has possessed for over 50 years and that he rides from Leopard Gate all the way down the hills to the village of Bouquet every first grand snowfall."

As they exited the great hall the coolness of the air condensed their breath as it was getting colder with each day.

The Relique Blundered

Cobina du Bois Guilbert, youngest child of the Marquis d’Ascoyne rode ahead of the Battle Pilgrims. She volunteered because it seemed the right thing to do. Her sister never hid her disdain for the Pilgrims and her father's opinion was well - Cobina sighed. Each night they camped and each night the Piligrims pontifically argued their case to the escorts. They exhorted and chided and dreamt of getting their prize.

By the third night, the escorts were thinking of abandoning their mission. Two days from the final resting place of Sir Pierre Monserrat, Cobina had near enough. The Pilgrims thrived on their commitment to the relique. They argued about who would carry the sacred bones, they spoke of high hopes of victory. They spoke of how the Reliques could fail them and on that discussion, Cobina threw her gauntlet down, so to speak..

"You knaves better get your convictions in place. 'Tis not the bones which fail you. Tis ye who wouldst fail the bones!" Her next statement would have made her poppa proud. "And when you fail, the Lady of the Lake is not amused."

By the time they arrived at the place, the pilgrims were more humbled and orderly. Once on site things changed drastically. Their confidence and zeal near overpowered them. Sergeant Rutledge commented that Empirical Flagellants were but tame kittens compared to these loudmouths!
