Storm of Chaos: Ambush!
Page 2

As may be recalled from the previous Battle Logs of the previous two battles, things were looking quite nicely for the Bretonnians, who were beginning to breathe easier in light of the Chaos invasion. And then the "Ambush" happened. Some will say generations from now that it was inevitable and necessary, and still yet others will never forgive nor forget the decision to try to ambush so large a force of Chaos troops with so few and inexperienced Bretonnian valiants.

Ambush

The Rules
1. The Chaos forces, being the "Defenders", deployed first in an area in the table center measuring 24" x about 24", with all models facing the same direction.
2. The Attackers / Bretonnians, having to use the Errantry Wars Army List composition and allowed to have only 50% of the Defender's points, deployed in areas on either side of the Chaos deployment zone (a minimum of 18" away on either side), with at least one third of the Attacker's units in each zone.
3. Attackers / Bretonnains go first.
4. Victory Points awarded for each unit destroyed or below half original strength.
5. Game is to last only 5 Rounds.

Army Composition

Chaos of Khorne
2ooo points
1 Chaos Lord on a Juggernaut armed with a Berserker Sword (CL)
3 units of 5 Chaos Knights (CK.1, 2, & 3)
1 unit of 5 Chosen Knights of Chaos (CKC)
1 Chaos Hellcannon (HC)
1 Chaos Sorceror, Level 2, mounted on a Warhorse, with "Wall of Fire" and Fiery Blast" spells

Bretonnians of Quenelles
1ooo points
1 Paladin on a Warhorse as the General, Birthsword of Carcassonne and the Talisman of protection
1 Paladin Battle Standard Bearer on a Warhorse wearing Gomril's Great Helm
3 units of 5 Knights Errant with a Grail Knight Champion (EK.1,2 & 3)
1 unit of 6 Knights of the Realm, Full Command (KoR)
1 unit of 5 Questing Knights (QK)

Terrain
Nothing much in this department, but there were five stands of trees / thickets designed to mask the amassing Bretonnian ambushing party. Thus, the trees were placed along the lines of the Bretonnian deploymnt zone on either side to create a sense of a sort of channel through which the Chaos troops were advancing. (The table measured 6' x 4').

Deployment
The Chaos army was deployed in a strong, box-shaped formation with the HellCannon in the center, the Lord immediately to its front, the Sorceror to it's rear. In each of the four corners was a unit of Chaos Knights: top left was CK.1, lower left was CK.2, and lower right was CK.3. The Chosen Knights (CKC) were placed in the top right corner. All units faced the front, ie. the Lords' position.

The Bretonnian opted to divide his forces as per the rules, but to the best possible chance of survivng long enough to inflict some loss on the Chaos column. On the left side of the Chaos mass was EK.A (slightly to the rear and well to the left of CK.1; while the Bretonnian Paladin General positioned himself at the head of the KoR unit to the left and rear of CK.2. On the right side, the QK unit set up facing the right flank of CKC; EK.2 aligned itself in between the right flanks of CKC (it was not known at this time that this Chaos unit was a "Chosen" unit) and CK.3; while the last unit, EK.3 set up on the right flank of CK.3.
