Since we're so closely related to the Empire, I think it's worth posting some news about their new miniatures... and maybe, some can also be used in our army, as variation Wink

Emire General

Fortunately, their horses seem to have gotten a complete overhaul, which was long due. Looking closer at the horses, parts of them look also very similar to ours now!

Another new interesting fact is that they are looking more Baroque (in a historical way) now, wth all those skulls and skelletons (interesting reading: Skull symbology on Wikipedia).

This thread discusses the Content article: New Empire Miniatures

I don't really agree that we could us them, they are to "modern" looking in my opinion to be used in an Empire army.
Re:New Empire Miniatures Oct 19 2006 01:40
don't think we can use them either, but I think these miniatures look great.
They look like exaggerative " Landsknechte" (english: lansquenet (I hope it is so, otherwise correct me); I stick to "Landsknecht" because it is often used... to be honest I never herd the english term).

Hope GW will design the whole new Empire army like this.

I could imagine myself using the BSB. Modify some bits and you've got a cool looking BSB on foot (to be used in those funny games with friends.. when winning doesn't matter).

As an Empire player I have mixed feelings. The variety of weapon options is quite nice, as well as the sheer fact that it's plastic and thus very easy to convert. The big concern is of course the sheer quanity of skulls (seriously, it's like all empire leaders are now grave robbers!) For most armies, I'd be apauled as it flies in the face of Empire fluff (there's no explination for why skulls are important iconography) and contradicts the whole "civilized" feel that the Empire has.

Now, for my particular army it's fantastic as it hails from Stirland and fights undead. The horse is amazing as well. The only other two things I'm worried over is the bizare little animal that comes with the BSB (seems to be a miniature griffin) and the sheer amount of clockwork stuff on the figures (the otherwise snazzy gun and the bizare gravity defying angel, which also has no relivance in empire fluff, which has gears sticking out of it's chest despite not having any moving parts!)

All in all, a nice boxed set, but when I buy 4 of them for my empire captains there will certainly be a massive amount of conversion work going on to blend them into Empire fluff.

I agree with the first posts that we cant use the models, but i do believe that their weapons and acessories would be great to use.
Re:New Empire Miniatures Oct 19 2006 13:28
The way I see it is that Bretonnia is rather an early medieval land and the Empire is a late medieval land.

Even better, I think that the Empire looks like Swiss landsknechts and Italian knights... And as Uther says, we might be able to use the weapons and accessories, but not the figures itself. They just don't fit in.
Re:New Empire Miniatures Oct 19 2006 13:38
Well they're plain wonderful. I'm gonna round my empire now and use bits to add variety to bretonnians. Great.
Re:New Empire Miniatures Oct 19 2006 15:10
there alright....but i prefere the bretonnians than the empire. these just look to full-on and 17th century to be patr of a medieval army.
Re:New Empire Miniatures Oct 19 2006 16:27
Perhaps the models are a bit to late in the historic period to pass for Bretonnians. However the new pistolier horses will make excellent palfrey for our mounted yeomen.
I think because the pistoliers are now plastic, it bodes very well for the Bretonnians when they are released for 7th edition.

Well, all in all I didn't mean the miniatures as a whole, but I could think of using some parts of the horses, to add some variety, or more armour.

Generally, I think they're pretty good miniatures, especially compared to the old ones!
